ABU DHABI - The Federal Environment Authority (FEA) and the Ministry of Environment and Water will take part in the meeting of Arab environmentalists scheduled in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Sept. 9.

Announcing this, the FEA Director-General Dr. Salem Masri Al Dhahiri said the two-day meeting, which will be attended by representatives from all Arab countries will discuss the draft articles of association (by-law) of Arab Union for wildlife sanctuaries.

The proposed project aims at providing support and technical advice to the member countries to pinpoint the locations of the sanctuaries, how to manage and operate them as well as chalk out plans to develop the same, he said.

The draft by-law is also designed to encourage the member states to set up a wildlife sanctuary run by private associations and communities. It will boost the commitment to the environmental work in the Arab countries and underscore the importance of wildlife sanctuaries in protecting the bio-diversity and the different ecological systems in the Arab world.

Dr. Al Dhahiri described the forthcoming meeting as of great importance as its outcome will be tabled before the joint environment and development committee in the Arab world at its next meeting before being referred to the Arab Environment Ministers Council.

EFA will also attend the meeting of experts in environmental data in West Asian countries.

The meeting organised by the UN regional Office in West Asia is scheduled to be held in Bahrain from September 12.

The meeting will formulate an advanced system on environmental control in the countries of the region.
