83 peacocks die of viral disease in Pakistan

(IANS) / 29 July 2012

A viral disease called “Ranikhet” has led to the death of at least 83 peacocks in Pakistan’s Sindh province, Geo News reported.

The disease in Tharparkar district broke out in the first week of July.

Scores of peacocks have died in the rural areas of Mitthi, Diplo and Nangarhar.

Thw wildlife department said distribution of medicines for the suffering peacocks was underway. However, locals said the department’s four teams had only one doctor who was dispensing medicines.
