The Traffic and Patrol Department of the Ras Al Khaimah Police saved an Emirati motorist who could not decelerate or stop his four-wheel drive whose cruise control mechanism developed a snag while moving at a speed of 120kph on Emirates Road on Tuesday night.
An official source at the department said that the Operations Room received a call that a Land Cruiser coming from Umm Al Quwain on Emirates Road experienced a technical fault and the driver was unable to slow it down or stop it, a matter that required quick response from the traffic patrol, ambulance and rescue staff to save the motorist’s life.
The Operations Room immediately dispatched a team of personnel who chased the vehicle to rescue the driver.
A senior officer of the Traffic and Patrol Department himself tried to block the 4WD with his car first but he later dropped the plan.
Near a roundabout, he instructed the motorist to turn right and crash his vehicle into a sand dune on the roadside.
Finally, the vehicle stopped without any damage to it or injuries to the motorist who said he would thank God first and then the policemen for going to the extent of endangering their lives to prevent his car from crashing into other cars or objects that could have cost his life or seriously injured him.
The source said the patrol and ambulance personnel played a heroic role in saving the motorist.
