Where are the readers?

Mir Imran Hussain, Dubai / 19 July 2012

Few days ago I visited a library in Dubai as I was looking to enroll myself as a member. The library was a readers delight with varied collections of books suiting every ones interest, furniture was world class and the ambiance was best suited for a good read.

While the book that I was particularly looking for was not available, the staff there was happy enough to educate me that on becoming member they can arrange the books from other similar libraries for the members to read. Such an offer literally made me happy. On the other side, the reader in me was upset on seeing such a beautiful library absolutely deserted. I asked myself, ‘where are the readers?’ In today’s world we may have the best of digital gadgets for reading. But the joy of reading in a library is an experience in itself. Libraries here in the UAE are worth a visit.
