Rubbish menace

Fatima Suhail, Sharjah / 30 July 2012

At times it is shocking to witness the irresponsible attitude of some residents who dump their garbage on the roads in Sharjah. The accumulated rubbish on the roads, inside the parking areas and in almost every nook and corner is an eye sore and absolutely unpleasant to walk through.

The main entrances of most of the buildings are littered with waste such as plastic cups, packaging, shattered glass bottles, beverage cans, tissues, papers and a lot more. Another issue that disappoints is that the trash bins provided by the municipality are usually over-flowing. The garbage in these bins keeps lying for long durations and is not collected frequently by the municipality workers. The situation is worst on Fridays because the waste generated by households and commercial businesses in the

neighbourhood is in tons and not collected until Saturday afternoons.

People are compelled to dispose of their waste bags near and around bins due to lack of space. The authorities concerned are requested to kindly address this issue.
