Traffic fine

(Vikas Navalrai Makhija,
by email) / 21 July 2012

I got a parking fine in Dubai on June 29. I called RTA helpline the next day and they asked me to pay in any Emirates NBD Bank. I promptly paid the fine on July 1.

The payment receipt details are not updated on the RTA website till date. I contacted RTA on July 5 with all the documents. They gave me a complaint # 402542. They responded on July 12, saying the case is resolved. But it was not done. I again contacted them on July 15. They again gave me a complaint # 407234. But no response so far.

As my vehicle is registered in Abu Dhabi, I even contacted the Fine Section of Abu Dhabi Police, but they said that as the fine is levied by RTA, only they can confirm the receipt of payment and remove the fine from the system.

I was informed that one reason for this is that as the Traffic file number is 10 digits in Abu Dhabi and its eight digits in Dubai, therefore the RTA was having difficulties in updating their system for removing the fine.

Even after paying the fine immediately, I am running from pillar to post to get the fine removed from the system.
