The Ministry of Public Works is gearing up to construct 50 new Shabi or low-cost houses for UAE citizens in Fujairah after it got an approval from the committee that fulfills the initiatives of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who ordered the refurbishment of areas across the country recently.
Salem Al Maksah, Director of the Works and Agriculture Department of the Fujairah government, said the department had conducted a survey of all residential plots of land for the new residential housing project for UAE nationals. A tender will be called in the next few weeks. Maksah said the department is zeroing in on plots on the outskirts of the city owing to the scarcity of residential plots downtown and since most of Fujairah falls within the mountain range which makes it unsuitable to build houses.
“The department has finished surveying new plots at Wadi Mai, Al Sarm, Ahfarah and Al Haniya as a preliminary step,” Al Maksah stated. A total of 21 houses will be built in Al Haniya area, 12 in Ahfarah, nine in Wadi Mai and eight in Al Sarm area.
The Ministry of Public Works is already building 87 houses in Fujairah for Emirati beneficiaries: 34 in Awhala area, 51 in Al Qariya and two in Qadfa.
