Lily B. Libo-on / 14 June 2012

Dubai Summer Surprises 2012 will open on Thursday with laser works, acrobat shows, parades and other events at Modhesh World, one of the largest indoor edutainment theme parks in the Middle East at Dubai World Trade Centre.

The opening ceremony starts at 7pm at Modhesh World, which will be open from 10am to 10pm, from Saturday through Wednesday. The  working hours will be extended to midnight on Thursdays and Fridays.

Dubai residents, particularly families, are looking forward to new exciting shows and new shopping experiences in 15th Dubai Summer Surprises.

Egyptian Abishaik Mohammed says that his family is always eagerly awaiting for DSS to start. “As the summer holidays start, families like us wait for something new at this time of the year for a new round of shopping, winning and fun, which we experience during the Dubai Shopping Festival.”

Fifteen-year-old Filipino, Joseph Esguerra, said that he and his friends are excited about DSS. “Modhesh events will make this summer different from the past summer of travelling,” he said.

Laila Mohammed Suhail, CEO of Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE), an agency of DED, said that Modhesh World is a major attraction that supports Dubai’s position as an attractive family destination for summer vacationers. “The edutainment venue has built a well-deserved reputation as a great destination for both residents and visitors looking for fun and affordable family entertainment.”

She said that the first DSS Mega Raffle Draw will take place at the opening, with one lucky winner driving home a Nissan Patrol and a cash prize of Dh150,000.

A short documentary, which narrates the story behind 15 years of continuous success of DSS, will launch DSS2012 and it will be followed by a world class acrobat show and a huge colourful parade across Modhesh World halls.

Suhail said that DSS has transformed the summer season in Dubai by attracting visitors from across the region and boosting the economy of Dubai.
