Lets Talk It Out
Do you like to talk? Are you the kind of chatterbox who loves nothing better than to sit and natter with people about, well, anything? If the answer is yes, then Rendezvous is the group for you. Rendezvous provides a social setting for meaningful discussion. Participants can broaden their horizons, meet new friends and expand their social network all while having a good old chinwag. Above all, Rendezvous offers a rare opportunity to switch off from the everyday issues life in Dubai throws up, and switch on to the things that really matter in life...without getting too heavy, after all, its just a chat, not a debate. Each meeting has a topic of discussion to get the ball rolling and the conversation flowing. The next event will be held on Monday, September 21, at The Lounge at The Palace Hotel in Old Town, from 7.30pm until 10pm. The subject up for discussion will be how do we achieve a balanced life?, which is sure to raise a few suggestions. Admission is Dh50. Now, what do you say about that?

In the first year of the German occupation of France, Shosanna Dreyfus (Melanie Laurent) witnesses the execution of her family at the hand of Nazi Colonel Hans Landa (Christoph Waltz). Dreyfus narrowly escapes and flees to Paris where she forges a new identity as the owner and operator of a cinema. Elsewhere in Europe, American Lieutenant Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt) organises a group of Jewish American soldiers to perform swift and shocking acts of retribution. Later known to their enemy as the basterds, Raines squad joins German actress and undercover agent Bridget von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger) on a mission to take down the leaders of the Third Reich. Fates converge in the cinema, where Dreyfus is poised to carry out a revenge plan of her own. Employing pulp and propaganda in equal measure, Inglorious Basterds promises to be another slice of Quentin Tarantinos unique brand of cinema. World War II movies will never be the same...

Peter Kay: Saturday Night Peter
When comedians start to diversify their appeal, its usually the beginning of the end for their career. The jump from stand-up to TV, often with the odd book or two on the way, usually leaves them devoid of inspiration and, most importantly, jokes. Peter Kay, however, seems to be the exception. Hes successfully navigated his way around the stand-up circuit, has several successful TV shows under his belt, and is now the proud owner of not one, but two books. Picking up from where Kays autobiography The Sound of Laughter left off, Saturday Night Peter charts his career as he developed his comedy skills on the road, trying out stand-up material in pubs and clubs across the UK. Each Saturday night would present Kay with a new venue, a new audience to win over, other acts to better and the ever changing and all important performance itself. Behind the scenes is the preparation for the show, the anxious drive to the venue and, of course, the inspiration for the material itself.

The Arctic Monkeys Humbug
The coolest band around aim to make it third time lucky with their new album Humbug. The Arctic Monkeys, four lads from Sheffield in the north of England, exploded onto the music scene with their debut album thanks to word of mouth, incredibly live shows and Internet buzz. Having a host of great tunes didnt hurt, either. The so-called difficult second album established the boys as contenders to the title of biggest indie band in the world, but what about number three? Humbug has a clear edge to it, its dirtier and more aggressive than the bands other releases, maybe because it was co-produced by Josh Homme of Queens Of The Stone Age. The innovative production on Secret Door and beautiful blues of Fire And The Thud are exquisite, while a more familiar sound is brought back with Cornerstone and the thumping single Crying Lightning. The band have also ditched their working class lyrics in favour of a more mature theme. Three could just be the magic number for the Monkeys.
